The Bellybar A Product Review
A friend of mine told me about the Bellybar recently. Being that I'm pregnant with my fourth child and am a stay/work-at-home mom of three toddlers (two of which are twins), I guess she was thinking I was a good candidate to try one of these nutritious snacks. Needless to say, I contacted NutraBella (nutrabella.com), the makers of the Bellybar, and they promptly sent me a package
with samplings of each and every one of their products for review.
I wasn't sure what to try first (Bellybar represents more than just bars). With names like "Burstin' Chocolate", "Citrus On Board", "Vanilla Dreams" and "Berry Nutty Cravings", they all had the potential of living up to their titles. So, I started by analyzing the packaging and nutritioal facts....which are still important things to consider. 
The Bellybar logo is so clever with the B representing a pregnant belly. And, the prints on the packaging are totally hip and fun too, as you can see in these product images.
Personally, I always pay attention to packaging, so it's appeal was a real plus for me. It actually made me feel kinda' special for being pregnant, like these products were made just for me.
In fact, these products were made just for me, and millions of other moms too...not just the ones that are expecting either. Because the Bellybar products contain key prenatal vitamins, including iron, calcium, folic acid, protein and Omega-3 DHA, they are an ideal nutritious snack for any mom, pregnant or not. And, it is this consideration that sets it apart from other "health snacks" available. Now, for the all important taste test! With all that nutrition packed into these products, you might have thought they couldn't possibly taste that great. Add to that the finicky tast buds of pregnant women, and Bellybar sure has it's work cut out. Well, I won't keep you in suspense any longer. The stuff tastes fantastic! There are essentially three product categories: bars, chews and shakes. The bars are totally yummy and sweet without tasting like a candy bar. I especially liked the "Berry Nutty Cravings" flavor which actually had a sort of frosting coating one side that added just enough punch, if you know what I mean. The chews are just that, chewy. They are packed with flavor, the "Chocolate Cuddles" reminiscent of Tootsie Rolls and the "Citrus On Board" perfectly tart. As for the shakes, they come in the traditional chocolate and vanilla variety, but with much cooler names. The "Due For Chocolate" flavor is sure to be popular. I poured mine into the blender with some ice and made an immensely satisfying chocolate shake! You know, what I think I like most about the Bellybar products (besides their great taste) is their convenience for snacking on the go. It wasn't too long ago that I got stuck waiting in the doctor's office and caught myself searching in my purse for some old crackers or anything that could satisfy my empty stomach and impending nausea.
