I am 13 weeks pregnant with my second child and quite big. The doctor felt my tummy and said there might be two babies in there, could he be wrong or am I more than likely having twins? I won't be having an ultrasound for another few weeks and I'm dying to know if it's twins. Any help is vey much appriciated. x

I know 100% I am not 16 weeks. also i did a pregnancy test on the first day of my missed period it came back negative, 4 days later i did another but it came back at 2/3 weeks. so confusing. the gp either said im further along or a i have a small pelvis......... hmmmmm

Early Ultrasound is Common
by: Kelly

(IN RESPONSE TO THE PREVIOUS COMMENT) It's actually pretty common to have an ultrasound confirmation of pregnancy on your first visit, as it's the most accurate way for the doctor to tell how far along you are and also check for a fetal heart beat.

With all 3 of my pregnancies the early ultrasound was standard. However, that's not to say that all doctors run the same practice, so some will differ.

Good luck...Hope you'll let us know if it turns out to be twins!

measuring farther along then what i really am.
by: Anonymous

So I had my first appointment today with my obgyn she said from the calculations I was between five weeks and one day pregnant. Then she did the exam and said I felt more like 8 weeks along then 5. I know for sure the day i conceived so their is no way i can be 8 weeks along. before I left she let me know that I was scheduled for a ultrasound next Wednesday which is the 2nd. I know people don't really do ultrasounds so early along so I found it odd

I have a question for all mothers with twins?
by: Anonymous

Okay so I have had five healthy pregnancys and all natural births and I'm now pregnant with my sixth child and well I haven't been to the doctor yet but my stomach is supper tight unlike the other pregnancys. I'm only a month and I wasn't this tight this soon with the others. I'm also feeling a lot of fluttering and twins run on my side and I think it might be twins because I just got a weird feeling so can someone tell me what they think?

I am 10 weeks pregnant myself and had my first pap and internal exam 2 days ago , my dr told me my cervix felt larger than a woman who is only 10 weeks he said either we have the time wrong and i am around 12 weeks or i may be having twins, but i dont understand how i could be further along i had my last period in march and had unprotected sex for the first time the day after it ended! so now i have to wait 4 more days to find out!

Twins
by: Julie

It could be multiple things, but twins is definately a possiblity. I went to the Dr for my 15 week appointment and when she felt my tummy she said she wanted me to have an ultrasound because my uterus felt large for 15 weeks. She thought I felt more like 20 weeks so they either had my date wrong, I was carrying twins, or I had fibroids. She scheduled me for an ultrasound that day to find out. Sure enough there were two in there! They also measured 16 weeks instead of 16. I think its a little odd that your DR didnt schedule the ultrasound right away to confirm twins and rule out any other causes but then again every doctors different. Good luck!

Say what!?

I think it odd that your OB didn't do an ultrasound at your first appointment. I went to my first appointment, already knowing I was pregnant, but just wanting to start myself on the prenatal care. He did the abdominal exam and asked me again when my last cycle was. I told him two months prior to that visit and he said that it felt more like four months. He did the ultrasound and turned out I was pregnant with twins. If your OB suspects you're having twins, an ultrasound should've been done immediately to confirm, as the prenatal care is different. You may be high risk and need additional care from a high risk doctor, you may also be required to take extra Folic Acid in addition to what's already in your daily prenatal vitamin, as I did, and I'm sure a lot of mom's of multiples had to. That's just a couple of examples. I would've gotten a second opinion if my OB was not sure.

Well I'm 10 weeks and we find out if we are having TWINS Tomorrow August 5th. This is my second pregnancy and everything you mentioned with symptoms is the same thing I'm going through. I'm very big and even been having allot of flutter movements. My doctor said he is planning on doing a Vaginal Ultrasound on me.

Thanks for your input!!

possibly....
by: Julie

Hi! I found out I was having twins during my 1st OB visit at 10 weeks. My OB did an abdominal exam and then proceeded to do a trans-vaginal ultrasound in which her suspicions were confirmed. She thought that my abdomen felt large for 10 weeks and sure enough I was carrying twins!!! It was my 2nd pregnancy as well and I felt that I was showing sooner and looked thicker and higher than with my 1st pregnancy. I didn't really think anything of it as your 2nd pregnancy usually presents differently than your 1st when your abdominal muscles are still nice and tight. What a surprise! :)
So sorry you have to wait several weeks for an ultrasound to confirm twins, how cruel. Best wishes!
