Eating For Three

Well, I am now 22 weeks pregnant and I feel that I don't eat enough for my babies. Mainly because my family doesn't think I do. They're always telling me to add a little more to my plate. So, I just wanted to know how much I should eat and how often since I'm eating for not only my self, but my twins.

If you feel like eating more, make sure it's a protein. It's easy to pack on useless pounds with simple carbs but they don't realy help grow strong babies. What you need is protein and calcium as your pregnancy gets further along.
One book that really helped guide my diet was Barbara Luke, MD's When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads. It's scientifically based and she has great outcomes with her babies.

The Right Stuff

I recently found out through ultrasound that I am 11wks and 3days pregnant with twins and have been reading everything I can find on diet because for the entire first trimester up to this point, I have had ZERO appetite for anything other than breakfast. What I have read is that an extra 600 calories a day, of good foods is recommended in the 2nd and 3rd trimester. The proper caloric intake will help with higher birth weights, and for me this is huge because my 2 year old son and 1 year old daughter were both 8lbs 8oz at birth and I loved it! With that said, it all says eat small meals and snacks several times a day. Three meals just doesn't work for me because I feel fuller faster.

I aim to snack healthy and more than normal. If you're snacking on fruits/veggies/nuts/cheese/yogurt, you'll get everything you need.

you don't need to eat for 2 never mind 3

My doctor has told me just to eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full, she said eating for 3 is unnessesary and won't do you any good to put you on extra weight in the long run.

I am only 18 weeks, but most of the time I don't feel like eating a lot. I usually ate a little bit before the pregnancy and now it seems the little monsters are already pushing all the room out of all the other organs, both the stomach and the bladder suffer the worst. My dr doesn't seem to worry and the babies seem to be growing just fine.

I got told that i didnt eat enough also, I am carring twins.. I did lose weight at the begging because of getting sick all the time. but i couldnt keep anythign down. I am now 32 weeks and the babies are right around 4 lbs each. Damn im in pain but.. what do u expect. they are perfect little girls rite where they are supposed to be and so.. Just tell them that u cant eat much because of your babies pushing up on your stomach. (you can only fit so much food and 3 babies in your stomach) I eat little meals. a couple times a day.

Make sure you're eating the right things. I ate several smaller meals each day. I never had morning sickness though but I'd eat probably every 2-3 hours during the day and LOTS of water. You're in the bathroom every 5 minutes of course. Don't miss that. Check with your doctor.
