I Have A 2 Year Old With Twins On The Way - How To Handle Things?

by Elaine

I have a 2 year old girl whom I am very attached to, and I am expecting twin boys. I feel bad for her since she will be sharing the attention and everything with new babies. I was not close to my mom when growing up so I wanted to have a special bond with my 2 year old. I am also an only child and I feel very protective of my little girl. I know it sounds unfair, but is it normal to be more excited and worried with the first pregnancy than the second?

Very Common Concern
by: Kellie

Hi there,

My daughter was almost 2 years old when my twin boys were born. Luckily, we have lots of family and freinds that live close by, so she was able to have one on one time with them, as well as special time with my husband and I when we could leave the twins behind. On a daily basis, I would make a point to give her my undivided attention at different times throughout the day (like when the twins were napping).

I think many parents have this concern when they have older siblings. You wonder how you will be able to give each of your children the attention and care that they need. Trust me, you will do just fine!...And so will your daughter!

And, everyone is generally more nervous and excited with a first pregnancy because of the unknown. Once you have gone through it, it loses a bit of it's wonder. Although, your twin pregnancy will be much different than your singleton pregnancy, you may still be feeling like you've done this before.

Hang in there! You have been blessed with a very unique pregnancy, you should try to enjoy it. :)
