More Folic Acid With Twin Pregnancy?

Hy husband says that now that we know we are having twins I need to add more folic acid to my everyday. I already take a daily prenatal vitamin, but do I really need more folic acid during twin pregnancy?

Folic acid

I think there may be varying idea about how much folic acid to take. One doctor from my high risk clinic told me to take 2000mcg and then the next practitioner said it seemed like a high dose. You can always call between appointments to find out the exact dose they recommend. There's a small window while the spinal cord is forming where enough folic acid is critical so find out their recommendation soon.

Vitamins Galore!

I'm 18 weeks 2 days with identical twin girls and my doctor has me taking regular prenatals, folic acid, iron and calcium. He says that the babies will take most of this from my blood to I need the extra nutrients not only for them, but for me too :)

I asked my doctor this yesterday and he said the prenatal vitamins are fine for right now (11 weeks) but later we will increase when the babies are bigger. Ask your doctor :)
