by Demetria Holt

When you have twins that are a boy/girl and people ask "are they identical twins?" That drives me crazy.

no, they are NOT identical
by: Krystle

It never fails, right after someone asks "Oh, are they twins?", I know what's coming next. "Are they identical?" I am generally a very nice person but one of these days I am just going to snap. I normally dress my 6 month old twins in clothes that are obviously boy and girl, but even if their clothes were gender neutral, they look nothing alike! I think if I were to just start lecturing them on the reproductive process and why boy/girl twins can't be identical they would probably just feel stupid and walk away.

"Are they identical" come-back
by: Anonymous

I'm 32 weeks pregnant, with boy/girl twins. I've also been asked if they're identical. I typically respond with "oh, I hope not- if so, we've got a problem!" They usually figure out the ignorance of their question after that.

I have 6 mo B/G twins too, Melanie and Lukas
by: Laurie

At first I thought it was fun, all the attention we receive while out and about, especially when people would ask if the kids are identical. But to be honest, I can't believe how many people out there don't really understand human reproduction...scarey if you ask me. Anyhow, I respond with," no, it isn't possible for boy/girl or fraternal twins to be identical, though they can strongly resemble each other" and leave it at that.....you should see all the puzzled looks I get, it really gets people thinking. What I really want to say is : Didn't you pay attention in school the day they taught reproduction?!!!

Its a sad commentary on the general lack of knowledge in our society,
this is my second set of twins, so...
ive heard of most of these, my first were fraternal too, a redhead and a blonde.both boys, this time its Boy and Girl... so im sure we will hear the same songs again...

I'm 8 mo with bg twins
by: Anonymous

I am 8 mo with bg twins and the second question after- Do twins run in your family - is can you tell yet if they are identical or fraternal?
I always reply with well, they would have to be the same gender to be identical but we'll see if they look alike when they're born!

change a diaper and you can tell...
by: Anonymous

We have 3 mo old b/g twins and get this same question ALL the time. It drives us crazy and I have started saying to people, "well, if you changed their diapers you would see that they are NOT identical... ???" and then wait to see if they get it. Some still don't. Sigh!

Yes!
by: Teri

I just say an exaggerated "yes" and then stare at them silently waiting for them to figure it out. Sadly, few do.
