Twins at discovered at 9 weeks but not at 6 weeks?

by Alissa
(C)

I found out I was pregnant at 3 weeks. I took 3 tests all had a faint second line. My first sonogram was at 5 weeks & 1 day. My second sonogram was at 6 weeks & 4 days. Both sonograms only showed one baby. After a trip to the emergency room for dehydration at week 9 & 1 day, they also did a sonogram to make sure the baby was ok. The baby was indeed fine but then there was another. Is it possible to miss the twin at my 6 week sono? They seem to be sharing a sac so I should be expecting identicals from what I've read. I have an appt with my OB tomorrow but I'm curious to hear feedback from you ladies.

i too have a sono at about 10 weeks and there is only one baby. However, when I went to the dr at 12 weeks, tada... there were two heart beats. It depends on the angel of the sono tech. Yes, it is possible for the sono tech to make an error and miss one.

young mom of twins 6ys
by: Mrs MB

i got married at 21 ys and was not planning to have kids at the time, but got really sick and discovered i was preggy, at 4 weeks doc sent me for sonar only to discover twins, it was a shock to me and hubby as we just got married and were very young. the pregnacy was very well monitored from the discovery day until labour. Got them ceaserian and both weighing 3.2 & 3.6 kg, they are now 6 years and very handful and now expecting the second born only 31 weeks, and feeling very differently because with twins i was never sick until their birth.

Mine first discovered at 19 weeks!
by: Jen

Hi,
I had an ultrasound at 6 and 8 weeks and heartbeat checks at 12 and 16 and we only saw/heard on baby. At my level 2 ultrasound at 19 weeks we found the second one! Boy, were we shocked! Mine are identical. They shared the same placenta, but were in different sacs. There was a thin membrane separating them. If yours are identical, you will most likely be monitored more frequently from now on. Best of luck to you! My boys are two now! : )
