11 week ultrasound of the twins

This is my first pregnancy and we had the first ultrasound at 11 weeks when we found out that we're having twins. Since then I've had an ultrasound every two weeks but no real news on if they're fraternal or identical for sure or the sexes. My Dr. is sending me to a multiples specialist for a consultation in a couple weeks and hopefully they will tell us more.

Identical or fraternal from ultrasound
by: Anonymous

From your picture of your ultrasound your twins are in two gestational sacs (diamniotic) If they are found to share a placenta (monochorionic), then they are identical. If they are found to have 2 placentas (dichorionic), then they may be either identical or fraternal. If dichorionic & the same sex a genetic test after birth would be the only definitive way to know if they are identical or fraternal. All fraternal twins are di/di & about 30% of identical twins can be di/di.
