Natural?

by Denise B.

I always get the question about if my twins are "natural". What's funny is that I did have IVF, but my usual answer is more like..."Do you mean as in organic vs. synthetic"? This usually stumps them...at least for a minute! :) LOL!

A twin pregnancy conceived with ART is different than one without?? How so?
by: Anonymous

I had ivf and twins as a result. People always think that when we have ivf or assistance conceiving, that we should be better prepared or expect it. I beg to differ. I tried to conceive for 7 years before I finally did using ivf. I never once had a positive pregnancy test in my life after failed attempts at IUI, meds alone, timed intercourse. So when I found out I was pregnant and that there was 2 you better believe I was in shock! I never thought I could or would get pregnant. This is what we women who suffer from infertility go through. Yes we know it's a possibility, but at the same time we are usually preparing ourselves for another big fat negative. It's just as much a surprise to us as it is for those of you who do not have to use reproductive technology to conceive. We just have a little bit of a different history and scenario.
As for the pregnancy and the twins being different than that of a "natural" twin pregnancy... That's the biggest load of crisp I've ever read!!

Real human babies
by: Anonymous

My answer was always - yes they are real human babies - my boys are 5 now. Always stops people in their tracks and then they realize how completely inappropriate the question was. A good "what a dumb*ss question" stare helps as well.

My response is always....they better be or I want my money back because we were very carefully to only use organic fertilizer.

Fertility Engineered vs. Natural
by: Susan

Now I am curious about a comment a previous poster made. What are the differences between fertility engineered and natual twins? I Googled it and did not find anything.

How are the pregnancies different?

Are they natural?
by: Anonymous

When people ask me, "Do twins run in your family?" I say, "I am adopted so I couldn't tell ya!"

It is almost always complete strangers that ask that question which is really "Did you use fertility measures?" Which we did. And the few times I have said "we had help" it was followed by "Boy you're lucky you didn't end up with 8 like that Octomom". I say "Well, I think I am lucky that the science exists so that I have my son and these 2".

I think people are baffled by the miracle that is pregnancy and even more so when our superhuman powers help us create more than 1! But that doesn't really make me forgive their ignorance.

Re: Differences? Alien vs Human?
by: Rachel

Good question. I'm very curious, too. I recently became pregnant with twins via IVF (6 weeks along today). My husband is a fraternal twin (conceived before IVF was even an option) and is really excited about our having fraternal twins, but maybe I should warn him that our "fertility engineered twins" probably won't be what he's expecting...

Differences? Alien vs Human?

What are the differences between natural and fertility engineered twins? Curious.

well, you asked for it
by: naturaltwinshere

if you got ivf or used fertility drugs then you knew it would be a possibility that you could have multiples and these are the kinds of questions that come along with that soo you should've been prepared for that as well. There is something different about fertility engineered twins and natural twins and even the pregnancies. They are just 2 completely different things.

Dumb question
by: Linda

I get the are they natural, did you plan this, are you ready for this questions.

I am 24 years old and 26 weeks preggo with two very precious little girls. Identical MoDi. and i get these dumb questions all the time. typically i let it go but sometimes i like to put humor into my answers.

the natural question usually ends up as i lept with a ninja or i got ninja'd. Did i plan it? Nope totally a freak accident but i like to look at them and say yeah i planned it i wanted more work cuz i wasn't busy enough.

the am i ready for this? honestly no i am scared out of my mind excited to the point of no return and part a=of me feels void of emotion but thats just me. My answer is " I will be."

I'm glad that people are getting these stupid questions too. I am not alone.

Did you have help?
by: NYMama

Our B/G twins are 10 months old but from the day we found out we were having twins, one of the most frequent questions was "Did you have help?"
Most people meant did we do IVF or fertility drugs, etc. Although we didn't, my answers ranged from "It was Devine Intervention" (which is applicable regardless of how the babes were conceived) to "Yes, my husband lent his assistance." It never ends...

Good luck and congrats to all you moms of multiples!!! This is the best experience of my life!

easy answer
by: Lesley

I am 24 weeks pregnant with b/g twins. We DID use IVF (FET, actually) but hardly anyone ever asks me that because the first question is always, do twins run in your family? And they do. I tell people, my brothers are twins, and my niece and nephew are twins, and no one ever thinks to ask about IVF after that. They just assume these are "run in the family" twins.

Meet my clone...
by: Jen

Just tell them, "Well, one is natural. The other is a clone." Or, "Natural? Absolutely not, they are the latest version of bot-babies!"

I know!
by: sarha

I hate this! I am only 15 weeks along with twins and have gotten asked this alot already. I don't go around asking people what position they were in when they conceived! I did have help but it's none of their business.

More "Natural" than IVF
by: Barbara

I hate this question also! I didn't do IVF, but did use fertility drugs...I just tell people "No, I had a c-section." By the time teh realize that I didn't really answer their question, they seem to be embarassed enough to not pursue it!

I agree!
by: Anonymous

I HATE that question!! I am 25 wks with twin girls and I get asked if they are natural ALL the time!! I hate that and I feel like it is none of their business! Who goes around asking about other medications or medical procedures you have had done?? I will have to use one of these come backs! :)
