Upscale Vintage Shabby Chic Boy/Girl Twins Nursery

by Hughes Twins
(New Mexico)

This bedroom took on a whole new look after we removed the popcorn ceiling, added crown molding, painted the ceiling and the walls, and removed the closet door and reconstructed the closet to save on space in this small room! It is very thing we dreamed of and more...will be complete when we are twins arrive!

rod and frames
by: Anonymous

Did you mount the rod like the instructions say with the brackets or is it flushed next to the wall?

hanging frame
by: Anonymous

I LOVE the hanging frame idea! Did you mount the rod like the instructions say with the brackets or is it flushed next to the wall? I guess a simpler question would be how did you mount the rod so that the pictures don't "dangle" too much? Thanks!

Regarding Design Question
by: Hughes Twins

Thank you for commenting on our twin nursery! The hanging frame, I made with a curtain rod from Lowes, some ribbon from Hobby Lobby, and the frames came from an Estate Sale that I repainted. As for the sayings on the wall...I ordered them from Uppercase Living, http://uppercaseliving.com/
The one above the frames say..."Our little blessings hold the keys to our hearts" and the others above their cribs are their names. I hope this helps you in the design of your special nursery!!

We love your nursery. We are 8 weeks pregnant with twins! I know we are still early in our pregnancy but I love looking at pictures and after years of ttc, it is fun. Where did you get the picture frames, and stickers? Also, what does the information on the walls say? Thanks!

Regarding closet question
by: Hughes Twins

Hi Andy,

Thank you for commenting on our nursery! To answer your question regarding the changing table...it is an awesome addition to this room! Long story short....is is two different pieces, the top is a hutch(we found at a scratch and dent clearance sell at a baby store in Texas) and the bottom is actally a buffet you would put in your dining room(we found at Ashley Furniture) they match perfectly in color, you would never know they did not come together and it was less expensive than buying a hutch/dresser combo at a baby store. Just alittle advise..we are both tall people and this worked great for us so we do not have any strain on our backs, but if you are a shorter person look for something that is comfortable for you to stand and tend to your twins not having to strain. Just a word of advise...
Again...thank you and I hope this helps you as you prepare your nursery for your twins!!

Closet piece
by: Anonymous

Hi,
We love what you've done in your nursery. It's answering a few problems we've been having. I am curious what the piece is you put inside the closet. It almost looks like an office desk. Could you share any info about where you got it and what it is?

Thanks,
Andy

To Ashley.....
by: Hughes Twins

Thank you so much for viewing our twin nursery! This design is something I had done years ago for my bedroom(frames hanging on ribbon) and decided to make one for our nursery. The frames I got from an estate sale, but any frame would do...then you attach your ribbon either by hot glue or run it through the hanger on the back. The rod is simiply a curatin rod I bought at Lowes. And the keys....well I got them at an antique store. I do think you could find the keys on Etsy or a boutique store in your area. The saying above the rod is vinyl lettering from Uppercase Living(you can find them online).I hope this gives you some much needed information to complete the project for your nursery! Thanks Again!!

Answer to Question...
by: Hughes Twins

Thank you so much for the nice comments on our nursery! The chair and ottoman is a Pottery Barn style that I actually ordered online at Walmart.com....It is a great price and of great quality. The chair is a rocking chair so I did not need a glider. I hope you are blessed soon with a bundle of joy and you can use some of our ideas!!

Question
by: Rini

Love this room and am planning something similar once we are blessed. Did you find any issues with not having a rocker/glider. I love the chair and ottoman, very nice, but wondering if I would still need a glider.

Thank you for your kind comments! A friend made the twin bedding, we bought all the fabric at JoAnn's Fabrics and some at Hobby Lobby. If you are interested in having custom bedding made please let me know and I will get you in contact with her. Thanks again!!

The room is so classy and well very though out. The organization and use of the closet is very smart. Looks amazing, great job!
