What Would Make One Twin's Heart Rate Drop?

by Nicole

I am 30 weeks prego with twins (1 boy 1 girl). We had a doctors appointment this morning and baby B's heart rate was 165 but baby A's was only 123.. they both have been pretty close to eachother (160-165) the entire pregnancy. They are sending me in for another ultrasound.. but I am worried.. what could this mean?

Sleeping

At 30 weeks they have individual sleep cycles that is why one twin can be kicking more then the other at times. of course they don't sleep all day so they are often awake at the same time. If your baby was sleeping it is only natural that the heart rate dropped.

123 is still a normal heart rate! But sometimes the heartrate can drop if the baby is grabbing their umbilical cord... its normal thought! No worries!

It could mean that baby is 'stressed' in which case you if the baby's heartbeat doesn't go back up you could be induced, put on bedrest, and be monitored, but any way it's not a good thing, I'm sorry.
I hope your next ultrasound/checkup will show they are both doing well!
