Will The Extra Skin Go Away?

I am 4 weeks postpartum with my twins, and I have a yucky extra flap of skin that just hangs down over the c-section incision. Will it go away or at least diminish somewhat? Or is a tummy tuck the only solution? I am thrilled that I carried my boys 38 weeks and they are big and healthy, just not so thrilled with the prospect of this flap hanging around forever...

Feels the same

Everyone is different but I also carried my twins to 38 weeks and have the skin to prove it! I was 110 pre pregnancy and gained 57lbs during my pregnancy and it was all in my belly. My twins are now 8 months and most of the skin is gone but I still have a little pouch im working on. Working out helps alot. I do lots of cardio and ab work outs. A tummy tuck is my last option. But give your self some time for it to go back. Remember it took 9 months for it to stretch out so it might tale double that to go back. I'm giving myself 2 years and if not that tummy tuck it is! Good Luck.

it's better, but still not great...

I posted the original question... My boys are 15 months now, and the flap doesn't hang down anymore (thank goodness), but there is still tons of extra skin around my belly and a "pooch" that just won't go away. I still hate the way it looks. I try not to let it bother me, but it does... I am back to pre-pregnancy weight (ok, maybe 5 pounds to go), so I'm still trying to get rid of that and maybe that will help.

Give it time

HI, I already have that annoying flap of skin you are describing, mine is from loosing a LOT of weight. I am 20 weeks with twins (B/G they think, Baby b wasnt playing fair for pics, LOL) and expect that my flap will get bigger once they are delivered. Ask your family doctor, they may be able to recommend a cream to help the skin regain its elasticity and shape, there are some suggestions online for over the counter 'cures' but the doc should be able to point you in the right direction. It took a good while for the extra skin to grow, give it a chance to go naturally, and enjoy the babies !!

It might be there to stay!

I had my daughter by c-section 2ys ago and she weighed in at 9lb 12 1/2oz so i was pretty big everyone said i looked like i was having twins then. The flap your talking about really got me down and took months to get smaller but never fully went away, now I am expecting twins and expect to be even bigger than last time and I think your stomach gets worse with each pregnancy you go through and the scar doesn't help. So I don't have much hope for my figure anymore but thats just what happens to woman when they have children, I think we just have to try and get on with it and still keep your confidence if you can, look what you made after all.

Get Used to It ...
by: Anonymous

I had my twins in April 2006. I was induced on my due date at 40 weeks and they were each a tad over 6 1/2 pounds. Within a few months of nursing the little people, I lost all of the weight I gained, but the skin remains. I was lucky and had a vaginal birth, but I'm not sure that makes a difference. My OB advises that the only way to remove the skin is with a tummy tuck ...

flappy skin

Ok you need to understand. Took you 9 months to get it and you need to give your body 9 months to heal slowly, properly and surely. Its also important to be healthy just to get rid of as much fat as you can. I just gave birth 3 weeks ago. I gain 50 pds during my pregnancy and I can say Im lucky I lost 43 of it already. The key is WATER!

Don't you just love the extra skin? Not! Mine went away.. I can't remember exactly when but just give it a little time. Congrats on having your twins! My b/g twins are 17 months and such fun.
